The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (No. 49 of 1988) is a federal law enacted by the Parliament of India to combat corruption in government agencies and public sector businesses in India.[1] The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently arrested the Medical Council of India's former president Ketan Desai and three others under this act, for allegedly accepting a bribe to permit Patiala-based Gyan Sagar Medical College to recruit a fresh batch of students without having adequate infrastructure.[2]
